A day after Jammu Police said that it arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen militant from Bathindhi area in Jammu, Tral Police and his family claimed that he is innocent.
The accused alleged militant, Shabir Ahmed Malik, 19, of Nagbal Tral is a baker by profession and has nothing to do with militancy, Mukhti mother of Malik said.
"He was working at baker shop in Srinagar. Some days ago, he called us and informed that Tral police have called him and asked him to present himself at police station Tral." Mukhti told Greater Kashmir. "From that day he switched off his mobile phone. Today we came to know that he was arrested by police in Jammu," Mukhti said.
Seconding the family version, SHO Tral, Tariq Yousuf said that he is not a militant according to police records. "There is no FIR related to militancy registered against him. But yes some days ago his family reported him as missing in police station," the SHO told Greater Kashmir.
Pertinently, news reports had revealed that police arrested a man suspected to be a militant from the house of a former Sarpanch in Bathindhi area where he was staying for past two days.
Even after 24 hours of reports of arrest, Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Uttam Chand neither denied nor accepted the version of the police, he said, "Ee cannot say anything on this right now."
