Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) has warned BJP led NDA government to desist from experimenting with the idea of changing the demography and geography of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement a spokesperson of KCSDS said that meeting of the civil society group was held here on Tuesday to discuss the reports that PMO was in the process of changing political map of the state by dividing it in three separate parts. While terming the idea a "mindless contrivance bereft of moral, legal and constitutional realities," the members warned that such an idea shall be resisted with any sacrifice. "The members reminded the architects of this new idea not to forget that J&K has 80% Muslim population spread over erstwhile five regions with overall area of 222236 square kilometres. The destiny and geography of the state could only be decided by its people after they are afforded with right to self determination committed not only by both India and Pakistan but also guaranteed by United Nations Security Council."
The spokesperson appealed to all sections of the society irrespective of their political and religious ideology to be united against any attempt to tamper with our demography and geography. "KCSDS endorses the JRL stike call for two days and urges people to make it unprecedented," the spokesman added.
ANY TINKERING WITH ARTICLE 35A UNACCEPTABLE: JAMA'AT
Jama'at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir today termed any attempt of tinkering with Article 35A as 'unacceptable' and pledged complete support to peaceful protest program by Joint Resistant Leadership (JRL). "Any attempt of tinkering with Article 35A, which provides special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, is unacceptable and all vicious designs by anti-state forces will be frustrated jointly," JeI chief spokesman advocate Zahid Ali said in a statement.
"Anti-Kashmir forces are leaving no stone unturned to erode special status of the state and with each passing day such spiteful and communal elements are trying to use their influence aimed to change the demographical character of Jammu and Kashmir. These forces should know every anti-Kashmir agenda will be defeated by Kashmiris collectively', he said. 'Jama'at at this juncture pledges its full support to JRL for protection of states special position and terms it 'rightful', the spokesperson said.
KCCI EXTENDS SUPPORT
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry has supported the call for shutdown on the 13th and 14th of February, 2019 against the threat to Article 35 A.
In a statement a KCCI spokesman said that the issue of attempts to dilute Article 35 A was highly sensitive and members of the business community were ready to support all actions taken for safeguarding the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. "The business community would stand firmly behind the people for defeating all mischievous conspiracies aimed at creating disturbances in the Valley," he added.
