Awantipora man shot dead after abduction, say police

Unknown gunmen shot dead a resident of southern Awantipora police district after abducting him from his house late last night, officials said on Friday.

A police official told Greater Kashmir that some gunmenfired at Manzoor Ahmad Lone, 40, son of Ghulam Muhammad of Dogripora village inAwantipora, after taking him along from his residence.

   

Lone received multiple injuries and died on the spot, theofficial said.

His body, lying in a pool of blood, was recovered nearhigher secondary school, Gulzarpora, he said.

This is the second such attack in southern Kashmir in thepast 24 hours.

On Thursday, unknown gunmen shot at and injured the NationalConference’s block president for Bijbehara area in Anantnag district. He wasevacuated to sub-district hospital Bijbehara, where from he was referred toSrinagar for specialised treatment.

The police blamed militants for these attacks.

“A case has been registered into the Awantipora incident andinvestigations taken up,” a police officer said.

He said local police officials are probing the circumstances”which led to this incident”.

Superintendent of police Awantipora Tahir Saleem Khan saidthe slain man was working in a band-saw and had no political affiliations.

Following the incident, personnel of the army and Jammu andKashmir police rushed to the spot to nab the attackers.

On Friday, hundreds of people participated in Lone’s funeralprayers before he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard.
