Awantipora shuts to protest CRPF firing on civilians

A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Awantipora area of south Kashmir today against the CRPF firing last night that left three civilians injured.

A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Awantipora area of south Kashmir today against the CRPF firing last night that left three civilians injured.

Reports said that shops and other business establishments remained shut while public transport remained off the roads.

However, there have been no reports of any clashes.

Three youths were injured after CRPF men opened 'unprovoked' fire on them while they were regulating traffic during a massive jam on Srinagar-Jammu highway last night, witnesses told Greater Kashmir.

The injured youths were identified as Junaid Ahmad, Parvez Ahmad and Danish Javed.

Doctors said one of the youth suffered gunshot wound while the rest two have shrapnel injuries.

The youth were shifted to a hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

A police officer said that forces opened fire on a group of protesters who allegedly pelted stones on a CRPF bunker at Awantipora.
