Kupwara, Apr 13: Baisakhi was celebrated by the Sikh community with religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm across north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.
Scores of Sikhs Thursday morning turned up to Gurdwaras in Chogal, Main Town Kupwara, Main Town Handwara, Deedarpora and Karnah where they performed Bhajan Keertans and prayed for the everlasting brotherhood and peace in the Valley.
“We prayed for the everlasting peace in Kashmir on this special day. Those who are yet to visit Kashmir must experience the breathtaking landscapes of the Valley,” said a devotee at Chogal area of Handwara.
“This festival symbolises renewal, growth, and the spirit of unity as people from all faiths come together to celebrate the end of the harvest season and welcome the new year with prayers, festivities, and acts of kindness,” he added.
Muslims also visited Gurdwaras representing the brotherhood between the two communities. “We have been visiting Gurdwaras on different festivals of Sikh community and on our religious festivals they do stand with us presenting a beautiful picture of brotherhood,” said Iftikhar Ahmad in Deedarpora Kralgund.
Baisakhi holds significant cultural and religious importance as it marks the end of the harvesting season and the beginning of the Sikh New Year.
District administration Kupwara had set in place all necessary arrangements across the district for Sikh devotees.
