Balanced diet vital to overcome malnutrition among children: Speakers

Balanced diet is vital to overcome malnutrition issues among the children in Jammu and Kashmir, speakers said during a seminar here on Monday.

According to official spokesperson, the Indian System of Medicines (ISM) Bandipora organized a day-long seminar as part of Poshan Mah campaign being celebrated from September 1to 30.

   

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bandipora, Zahoor Ahmad Mir was the chief guest on the occasion.

During the seminar experts deliberated upon the importance of a balanced diet for the children to overcome the malnutrition issue.

They said the activities in the month long program shall focus on broad themes including antenatal care, optimal breastfeeding (early and exclusive), complementary feeding, anemia, growth monitoring, girls – education, diet, right age of marriage, hygiene and sanitation, eating healthy – food fortification.

ADC Bandipora said poshan Abhiyan or National Nutrition Mission is Government of India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

He said the Abhiyaan directs the attention of the people towards the problem of malnutrition and addresses it in a mission-mode.

The ADC stressed on providing quality nutrition to the children and directed the officers to ensure that a balanced diet is provided to the children in Anganwadi centres.

Among others, Nodal Officer ISM, District Social Welfare Officer Bandipora, doctors, Asha workers, ICDS Supervisors, and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
