Bandipora accident: Missing driver surrenders before police, shifted to hospital

In a surprising turn of events, a 25-year-old youth on Sunday morning surrendered before Bandipora police, saying that he was the driver of the BEACON vehicle that met with an accident on Friday evening on Bandipora-Gurez road.

In a surprising turn of events, a 25-year-old youth on Sunday morning surrendered before Bandipora police, saying that he was the driver of the BEACON vehicle that met with an accident on Friday evening on Bandipora-Gurez road.

A police official said that Muhammad Khalil Gojjar, 25, son of Sher-din Gojjar resident of Pethkoot Bandipora surrendered before the police.

Seven labourers had died in the accident while four others were injured.

"The driver was himself injured but had fled from the accident spot and returned after two days. He has been hospitalized as he has multiple injuries on his body," the official said.

The driver is currently admitted in SDH Bandipora where his condition is stated to be stable.

To mention police had launched a search operation since the day of accident, fearing that the driver might have also been killed in the accident.

Police has however, registered a case against him.

"He has been booked under FIR No. 33/2016 under sections 304 (a), 279, 337, 427 RPC. But he is not in a position to be kept under custody," the official said.
