Bandipora locality protests poor link road

Residents of Muslimabad in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district held a protest demonstration on Friday demanding a road linking the locality with rest of the town be macadamised.

The agitating residents blocked the busy Bandipora-Sopore road, hampering traffic movement for several hours.

Residents say the link road connecting Muslimabad with rest of the town is in a dilapidated condition and their repeated pleas and representations to authorities for its maintenance and upgradation have been ignored.

“Due to the dilapidated condition of the road we have to face a lot of difficulties. We have made several representations to the concerned department regarding upgradation of the road but they have turned deaf ears to our repeated pleas,” said Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Muslimabad which falls within the municipal limits of Bandipora town.

“The authorities have forced us to hit the roads to press for our demand. Had they paid heed to our pleas we would have not hit the roads to register our protest,” a resident said.

The protesting residents said that authorities recently repaired and macadamised most of the link roads in Bandipora town but have for several years left out the link roads connecting Muslimabad.

They urged the Governor and the divisional commissioner to look into the matter and help mitigate their sufferings.
