Bar condemns ‘ill-treatment’ of prisoners at Kathua jail

The J&K High Court Bar Association, Srinagar, has strongly condemned the “ill-treatment given to the detenues and under trial Kashmiri prisoners at district jail Kathua.”

In a statement here today the Bar appealed to the International Red Cross to visit the Kathua jail to see for itself the condition of the prisoners there.

It also appealed a team of lawyers permitted by the High Court to visit different jails in and outside the state for providing necessary legal aid and assistance to the prisoners, to conduct such visits at the earliest.

“The team after visiting the jails and interacting with the Kashmiri and other prisoners should submit its report to the Bar Association and to the High Court which is already seized of the matter, so that further action is taken in the matter accordingly,” it said in a statement.
