Baramulla civil society protests against Kathua rape incident

The civil society members of Baramulla town staged a protest on Saturday against the rape and murder of eight-year-old Asifa at Kathua.

The protest demonstration was held under the newly floated Baramulla Coordination Committee comprising of Beopar Mandal Baramulla, Auqaf-e-Islamia Baramulla, Transporters association, students association and teachers forum Baramulla.

“Attempts from vested interest people to give it a communal colour is a disgrace to humanity,” said Auqaf-e-Islamia Baramulla president, Nazir Ahmad Khan while addressing the gathering. The assembled protestors said the real culprits should be booked and the conspiracy behind the incident unearthed.  “The way rallies were conducted in favour of the accused in which BJP ministers participated reflects it was not an isolated incident but a conspiracy hatched to dislodge members of the minority community in the area,” said Tariq Ahmad Mughloo, General Secretary Beopar Mandal Baramulla.

Other speakers who addressed the gathering included president Beopar Mandal Baramulla, Muhammad Ashraf Ganaie, representatives of employees’ joint action committee, Muhammad Rafique Rather, and representative of transport association.  The protesters later marched through the town streets before peacefully ending their protest.
