Baramulla without car parking space

Baramulla, Nov 26: As scores of vehicles get added to the vehicular traffic each year across the Baramulla district, the lack of car parking space and vehicular population explosion have left the town residents in deep anguish.

Baramulla continues to suffer from car parking issues despite the administration promising to develop it at Noor-ul-Huda Market.

The administration even allotted around Rs 40 lakh to the Municipal Council Baramulla but there has been no progress on the issue so far.

An official of the Municipal Council Baramulla acknowledged that the first installment of funds was allotted to it during the ‘My Town My Pride’ event at Baramulla but said that the decision to finalise the place of parking was still pending.

In the past, the Baramulla district administration also identified several places for car parking but the authorities failed to finalise the spot.

As a result, the Baramulla town residents face problems in parking their cars as all vehicles can be seen parked illegally all along the main chowk, Tehsil Road, KanliBagh, Old Hospital Road, and other such places.

“Baramulla town has become a messy town in absence of a car parking facility,” said Tariq Ahmad Mughloo, General Secretary, Traders Federation Baramulla.

Muhammad Ishfaq, a local said that the lack of car parking space leads to frequent traffic jams in the town.

“The non-availability of parking slots is forcing people to park their cars and two-wheelers illegally and haphazardly,” he said.

Abdul Majeed, a resident of the town said that the vehicles were being parked on the cement bridge as well as beneath it.

“The commercial vehicles are also parked on the bridge which makes pedestrian movement extremely difficult. The inability of the authorities to stop such practice has disappointed the people here,” he said.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Baramulla, MuhammadAhsan said that the place for car parking had not been finalised yet.
