Begumbagh Pulwama residents protest

The residents of Begumbagh Kakapora village here on Thursday staged protest against alleged high-handedness of the army.

The protestors alleged that army “harassed” the family of Hilal Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Muhammad Rather whose picture with an AK-47 rifle surfaced on social media on Thursday.

   

Locals alleged that soon after his photo went viral on social media, troopers of army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles reached his residence in Begumbagh Kakapora and fired few rounds in air outside his house.

Earlier, following the SMHS shootout, a special squad of police from Srinagar conducted night raids in Pulwama district on Wednesday night and arrested seven persons including two brothers of Hilal Ahmad Rather namely Javaid Ahmed Rather and Manzoor Ahmed Rather.

Sources said that security establishments believe that Hilal Rather was involved in SMHS shootout which led to the killing of two policemen while as a top Lashkar commander Naveed Jat managed to escape.

Superintendent of police Pulwama Muhammad Aslam Choudary denied the allegations about high-handedness by army.
