An elderly Hajj pilgrim, Abdul Rehman Wani, from Katoo village of south Kashmir's Bijbehara Tehsil has been missing in Mecca Mukaram since September 22, two days before he was supposed to depart for Kashmir, family members said.
Wani is 73-years-old and has been selected for Hajj under the category of 'above 70', who are given first priority without going through draw of lots.
According to a cousin of Wani, Manzoor Ahmad Parray, he was supposed to reach here on September 24 from Saudi Arabia after completed Hajj but when the family members reached Srinagar Airport to receive him, he was missing from the plane. "Wani's sister Aisha Begum, who was accompanying him, told us that he went to Kaba Sharif for Tawaf on the afternoon of October 22, but did not return back to the hotel they were staying in," said Parray, adding, Aisha, 63 tried to trace his brother with other companions but to no avail and she has to ultimately return without Wani.
Parray said that from October 24, Wani's family has been repeatedly requesting stat government to help tracing him but to so far they did nothing. He said, the family has contacted Minister of Hajj and Auqaf, MLA of Bijbehara and PWD Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri but district administration but despite their assurances nothing has happened so far.
