Bijbehara area in thios south Kashmir district observed a complete shutdown on third consecutive day today to mourn the killing of three local militants.
Shops, schools and other business establishments remained closed while as traffic remained off the road in Bijbehara town as well as in villages of Dachnipora belt- Srigufwara, Sirhama, Khiram, Wubzan, Mahand, Kanilwal , Nainal and Marhama besides Arwani village. Shutdown was also observed in many Pahalgam areas of Dachnipora belt including Sallar, Liver and Aworora.
Three local Hizb militants Aadil Reshi of main town; Abid Sheikh of Satikpora village and Masood Shah of Bewoora village of Bijbehara areas were killed by government forces in a 16 hour long gun battle on Sunday in Awoora village of Pahalgam. The death of these militants triggered massive pro-freedom and anti-India protests in the area with thousands braving heavy snowfall turning up to participate in their funeral prayers.
The slain trio were believed to be close aides Hizb district commander Aamir Wagay alias Ibn Qasim. They said the group was involved in several attacks in Bijbehara area including one on Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) who was injured critically.
Aadil and Aabid had featured in several videos that had gone viral on social networking site face book and whatzapp groups. The duo had also appeared in which they were seen introducing themselves to local Lashkar-I-Toiba (Let) commander Abu Ukasha.
