A black bear mauled three persons when a mob pelted stones at the animal after it strayed into habitation at Tulwari Langat in search of mulberry.

A black bear mauled three persons when a mob pelted stones at the animal  after it strayed into habitation at Tulwari Langat  in search of mulberry. 

 Reports said that a black bear went on rampage at Tulwari Langate when locals after encircling it, raised hue and cry and stoned and tried to set the tree ablaze where it had sought refuge. 

The scared bear jumped down the tree and ran through the mob injuring three persons identified as Gulam Mohammad Wani,50, Amir Wani,20, Muhammad Auyoob Khan 40, all resident of Tulwari Langate.

After the attack bear escaped in the nearby forest. Injured were immediately removed to district hospital Handwara where from medicos referred them to SKIMS Srinagar for specialized treatment. "Condition of all the four injured is said to be out of danger, they have received wounds on their faces, head and other body parts" said the doctors.

In another incident at Martgam a bear was successfully tranquilized by wild life officials and shifted to wild life park Uri after a black bear strayed into habitation in search of food. Wild life officials were called in by residents who were successful in tranquilizing the bear.

Meanwhile, two bear cubs  were rescued by police and wild life officials from Sogam area of Lolab on Monday.
