The bullet-riddled body of a policeman who was abducted by militants last night from Mutalhama village in Kulgam district was recovered from GhatQaimoh in the same district on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased, Muhammad Saleem Shah son of Abdul Gani Shah, was earlier working as a special police officer. He had recently been promoted as a constable.
Shah had come home on leave a few days ago from Kathua, where he was undergoing training.
This is the second incident of a policeman being killed in southern Kashmir this month. On July 5, constableJavaid Ahmad Dar, who was also at home on leave, was abducted from Vehil, Shopian.
His body was found near a stream by the villagers in Pariwan, Kulgam the next day.
CRPF MEN FIRED AT
Militants fire at Central Reserve Police Force soldiers deployed along Khanabal-Pahalgam road at Bumzoo village in Mattan area of Anantnag district on Saturday.
A police official said CRPF personnel retaliated, triggering a brief exchange of fire.
“Nobody was injured in the attack,” he said.
Following the attack, the area was cordoned off to nab the attackers
A source, however, said that it was a weapon snatching bid by militants that was foiled by the paramilitary forces.
Barley an hour after this attack, militants attacked an army patrol in Hawoora village of Qaimoh in the neighboring Kulgam district. The government forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt for the attackers.
MILITANTS ATTACK ARMY VEHICLE
Militants attacked a bunker vehicle of army at Tahab in Pulwama district on late Saturday evening.
A police official said that militants fired an under barrel grenade (UBGL) on a 55 RR Casper vehicle when it was passing through the Boungam-Tahab area. “The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road.
