Authorities Thursday handed over the body of an eight-year-old boy of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, to Pakistan army. Earlier, the body was fished out from Kishenganga river in Gurez valley of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Officials of the district administration Bandipora, policeand Indian Army handed over the body to Pakistan army at Dudgai Post Chorwan.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, saidthat army officials along with SDM, Tehsildar Gurez and SHO Dawar handed overthe body at 2 pm to the Pakistan army at Chorwan border.
The boy had drowned in Neelum river in Minimarg area ofGilgit-Baltistan in PaK on Monday and his body was found in Gurez the next day.
Reports circulating on social media had identified the boyas Aabid Sheikh, son of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh of Minimarg in Gilgit-Baltistan.
A post on Facebook said that the boy had gone missing fromhis home on July 8 at around 11 am.
A senior official told Greater Kashmir that a process ofcontacting relevant people from the other side of the border was initiatedafter the minor’s identity was ascertained through social media.
A purported video of the deceased boy’s parents also surfacedon Facebook on Tuesday, appealing authorities from both sides of the border tobring it home.
Kishenganga River flows from Gilgit-Baltistan inPakistan-administered Kashmir where it is known as Neelum.
The police official said that the boy may have drowned thereand his body reached Gurez with the flow of the water.
