BOTE says no to separate exams for backlogs
The JK Board of Technical Education (BOTE) has amended rules and decided to abolish holding separate exams for students with backlogs in their semester exams.
The decision, officials said, has been taken to bring transparency in the department for holding semester exams of the students pursuing polytechnic course in different colleges.
"There was lot of corruption in BOTE for holding separate exams for students with backlogs in their semester exams. There was no transparency in holding such examinations," said Director BOTE, Shabnam Kamli.
She said the students having backlogs were given undue favors. "In past we witnessed that the answer script were written by other persons and there was no transparency in evaluation as well," she said.
Kamli said the department wants to bring the exam system at par with rest of India and cut down the corruption in exams.
"There was lot of corruption in BOTE. We took a decision to take odd and even exams semester simultaneously. The decision will make tabulation easier. Earlier we would witness conduct of exams every time and everyone would remain busy with exams only," she said
She said holding exams for odd and even semester students will help BOTE in synchronization of things as well. "BOTE has decided to make some changes for which we have a meeting in near future to iron the differences," Kamli said.
Meanwhile the students with backlog in various semesters have opposed the decision saying the move will prove costly for them. "As per the BOTE decision any student having backlog in 6th semester has to wait till 5th the exams for next batch are scheduled after qualifying their previous (5th) semester. It will be detrimental for us," the students said. The students said the decision will waste their one year.
However, Shabnam Kamli said ruled out any chances for having mid exams for these students saying that BOTE has made some changes for the betterment of the department.
"They (Students) are failing and their one year will go waste. There will be no mid exams for them. We always ask the students to take their studies seriously," she said.
She said BOTE used to hold separate exams for students with backlogs but the practice will be no more followed.
