Militants on Tuesday morning gave slip to forces during a brief encounter in Ajar area of North Kashmir's Bandipora District.
Official sources said that 14 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off a residential house at around 3 am in Ajar area following inputs about the presence of two militants there.
"The militants hidden in the desolate house resorted to firing before the army could launch the assault," an official said.
However, the army has launched massive combing operation across eight villages to trace out the militants after they managed to escape from the encounter spot.
After a brief gunfight, the militants hiding in the house managed to escape from the spot.
Meanwhile, Army's 14 and 27 RR units launched a massive search operation in the adjoining villages within the radius of 5-6 kms from the encounter site.
Massive combing operations were later launched in eight villages spreading across 5-6 kms from the encounter site. The villages include Kaloosa, Muslim Abad, Khayar, Lawaypora, Watrina, Onagam, Gundbal and Putushai.
However, when contacted Srinagar based Army Spokesperson, Rajesh Kalia said combing operations are over.
