Broadband Internet services were restored in Kashmir today, two days after they were suspended by authorities on the eve of the April 9 by-polls to Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

The broadband services on landline were restored at around 4.30 pm today, giving much relief to subscribers in the valley.

However, mobile Internet services remained suspended.

The authorities had suspended the Internet services at midnight on April 8 as a pre-emptive measure to stop "rumour mongering" to disrupt the by-polls in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency on April 9.

Despite the ban, at least eight civilians were killed in forces firing and scores others injured across Kashmir on polling day.

The Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency witnessed a mere 7.14 per cent turnout, the lowest ever recorded in the prestigious seat.
