Budget shot in arm for employees: EJAC

Representatives of state government employees have welcomed the budget announcements made by finance minister Haseeb Drabu, especially regarding implementation of the seventh pay commission recommendations from April this year.

The decision on seventh pay commission implementation is a “victory without war” and a “welcome step”, said Abdul Qayoom Wani, president, employees’ joint action committee.

“This is a joyful moment for the state government employees because the government had last year assured employees that the seventh pay commission will be made effective from April 2018 and they have lived up to their promise. We hope that SRO for this is issued at the earliest,” Wani said.

He thanked the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and finance minister Drabu and his team for “realising an important aspect” related to government employees and ensuring that there is no confrontation between the employees and the government.

Wani said that the government should release the arrears in favour of state government and public sector employees from January 2016. “We hope that the 7th pay commission is implemented simultaneously for all public sector units, corporations, local bodies and municipal corporation employees,” Wani said.
