Casual labourers threaten to lock down offices

Dozens of casual labourers from department of tourism hit roads for second consecutive day on Thursday, demanding release of their wages.

The tourism casual labourers assembled outside tourismdepartment and chanted slogans, alleging that authorities were callous towardstheir demands.

   

The protesting labourers were carrying placards and bannersseeking justice, demanding immediate release of their salaries. “Since2014, we haven’t taken a single penny from the department despite round theclock service being rendered by us,” they said.

The labourers alleged that authorities were keen to lapsethe funds and were not willing to provide them salaries. “We requestedauthorities many a time but no heed was paid to our repeated pleas despite thefact department has sufficient funds and can easily release our salaries,” theysaid.

The laborers said that an order directing release of wageswas issued on October 24, 2018, and another order was again released on January1, 2019, but those orders were not implemented.

They alleged that the order prohibited the release ofseparate bills but Nigeen club account is releasing salaries for 14individually.

“We are suffering a lot but the department is in no mood to redress our problems. The department spends huge amount on festivals and other recreational activities but is reluctant to release our pending salaries,” they said.
