Chanderkot accident: Bodies of two more UP residents recovered after 21 days from Chenab

Banihal, June 9: Police on Wednesday recovered bodies of two Uttar Pradesh residents from Chenab river in Talwara area of Reasi district 21 days after the duo went missing along with four others in a cab accident near Duggi Pulli, Chanderkot in J&K’s Ramban district.

Six passengers had gone missing after the cab bearing registration number HR 55J 1678 on its way from Srinagar to Bijnor in UP plunged into the riven Chenab on May 19.

   

It is said that the driver lost control over the vehicle causing the accident.

Out of nine passengers on board the vehicle, three were rescued by the Quick Response Team (QRT) comprising locals and police of which one person succumbed on the way to hospital while and six were missing.

A police statement issued today said that bodies of two more missing passengers identified as Mohammad Afzan, son of Amanat Hussain aged about 26 and Mohammad Azim, son of Mohammad Anis aged about 24, both residents of Kiratpur Bijnor were recovered from Chenab at Talwara Reasi.

The bodies have been handed over to their legal heirs for the last rites after the necessary codal formalities, police said.

Search for the remaining four passengers is still going on.

A case FIR NO 59/2021 under section 279/337/304 already stands registered at police station Chanderkot in the mishap.
