Chennai man killed, Handwara girl injured in stone pelting incident

A non-local man died after a stone thrown by a small mob hit him in the head at Narbal on Monday morning, the police said.

The deceased, R Thirumani, 32, was travelling in a Tavera vehicle towards Gulmarg this morning when a small group of youngsters threw stones at a few passing vehicles on Gulmarg-Narbal Road.

   

He was taken to SKIMS, Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening, a police official said.

SKIMS authorities said he had multiple fractures in the head and bled from the nose. He developed convulsions and although doctors tried to resuscitate him, he expired at 8pm.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti visited the police hospital late evening and met the family of the deceased and expressed solidarity with them.

A girl from Handwara area, Sabreena, 19, was also injured in the stone-pelting incident.

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti  has expressed deep anguish and shock over the death of a tourist   R Thirumany   from Chennai who  was killed today at Narbal  on way to Gulmarg .

The Chief Minister visited the Police hospital late evening met the family of the deceased and expressed solidarity  with them in this time of grief .

In a tweet,Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said: “Deeply saddened by the news of death of a tourist due to stone pelting. Condemn such hooliganism and rowdiness. It is totally against our ethos of treating tourists as respected guests and brings a bad name to the peoples movement.”
