‘Clarify if my son was involved in anti-movement activities’

Father of Arif Ahmad Sofi, who was killed by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday night in his native Wahipora village of Kupwara district, today made a fervent appeal to militant groups to clarify if his son was involved in any “anti-movement or anti-militancy related activities.”

Muhammad Maqbool Sofi, father of the slain youth said, “I make a fervent appeal to militant groups to publicly announce if Arif was involved in any anti-movement or anti-militancy acts and was slain for the same wrongdoing,” Sofi, told reporters at his home.

“I have been associated with ongoing movement for long and even my son was deeply connected to the movement since he was barely 10-year- old. Security agencies continuously harassed him last year and scrutinised his activities for past few years,” Sofi said.

To mention, hundreds of people including women had participated in Sofi’s funeral on Thursday.  Arif was a salesman at pharmaceutical agency. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers. Besides his physically challenged father is local head of separatist party Jammu and Kashmir People’s League.
