Clashes erupted after the government forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Hajin town of north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Thursday evening.

Reports said that army, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir and CRPF laid a siege to Bonkhan Mohalla of Hajin town.

They said that massive deployment of forces has been made in the town.

An official said that the CASO was launched following "specific" inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

He said that all the entry and exit points to the town were sealed.

However, clashes erupted as soon as the cordon was being laid. An eye witness said that youth took to streets and pelted the forces with stones to disrupt the operation.

He said that door-to-door searches were going on in the area amid stone-pelting protests.
