Government forces on Sunday foiled a pro-freedom rally in Markundal village of north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Witnesses said that people had erected tents and shamiyans in Markundal village to organise a pro-freedom rally.
However, police foiled it by allegedly firing dozens of tear gas shells to disperse the people gathered there.
Locals alleged that police and CRPF men entered into the venue and vandalised the tents and shamiyanas, triggering clashes.
Witnesses said that youth pelted stones on forces who responded by firing tear gas shells and pellets.
Clashes were going on when reports last came in.
However, there was no immediate report of any injuries.
