Clashes erupted in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday after government forces prevented a pro-freedom march.
Witnesses said that scores of youth assembled near Markazi Jamia Masjid Sopore after congregational prayers and shouted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
The youth, they said, attempted to take out a protest march from Jamia Masjid area but were stopped by the government forces deployed in strength at main bazaar Sopore.
This triggered clashes with forces bursting teargas shells to disperse the protesters who were responding by hurling rocks at them.
Because of the clashes, shopkeepers downed their shutters and vehicular movement was suspended.
