Closure of Karnah road forces people to carry pregnant woman on makeshift cot

Kupwara, Mar 5: The locals of Jabri Bajaldar area in border town Karnah Tuesday carried a pregnant woman to hospital on a makeshift cot due to closure of road following heavy snowfall last week.

The residents in a video message said that following the recent snowfall in the area, their road was yet to be cleared from snow, forcing them to carry the pregnant woman on shoulders to hospital.

One of the relatives said that soon after they came across that the woman had developed labour pain, they sought help from the neighbours and relatives to shift her to the hospital.

“Without losing any time, we wrapped the woman in a blanket and carried her on a makeshift cot by covering several kilometers on foot to reach the hospital. Non clearance of snow from the road of our village gave rise to the situation and we were compelled to shift the woman on foot,” he added.

“It took us four hours to reach the hospital. Had the road been cleared we would not have faced the situation,” he said.

The locals urged the authorities to clear the roads so that the people could heave a sigh of relief.
