CM inaugurates Police-Public Mela
Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, inaugurated the 26th Police-Public Welfare Mela, at Bakshi Stadium, here today. A large number of people from all walks of life attended the fair, which is held twice every year in the capital cities, an official spokesperson said.
After inaugurating the mela, Mufti Sayeed paid floral tributes to the police martyrs who laid down their lives, while safeguarding the people and maintaining law-and-order in the state. The fair aims at generating resources for welfare of the families of the martyred personnel of J&K Police, in particular focusing upon free education and scholarship of their children, he said.
He said that the Chief Minister also went around a few of the colourful stalls and appreciated the quality of products on display from all the three regions of the state.
As many as 35 stalls have been set up by Police Establishment Centres in the Mela, which has been organized by Jammu & Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA), he said.
Besides the stalls, he added, a game zone for entertainment of children has also been set up in the mela. The main attraction though remains the raffle draw in which prizes from luxury cars to laptops, washing machines and LCDs will be presented to the lucky winners.
