Scores of outgoing undergraduate students of 2015 batch are likely to lose one year as authorities at University of Kashmir have refused them provisional admission in post-graduation courses as they carry backlog.

These students have backlog from their 4th semester examinations held in October 2017, the results for which were declared in July.

The re-examinations started from September 28 to end October 22.

"We have qualified our 5th and 6th semester exams, the results of which were declared last week. We were provisionally allowed to appear in the PG entrance test as well," said a student from Rafiabad in Baramulla, declining to be named.

She said most of the students have qualified the PG entrance of KU according to the latest answer key uploaded by the varsity authorities.

"But we are not eligible for PG admissions in Kashmir University as we didn't qualify our 4th semester exams yet," she said.

The students accuse the varsity of playing with their careers leaving then frustrated.

"The sluggishness of KU has cost us badly," said another student from Budgam, asking if they were not eligible for PG admissions why KU allowed them to appear in PG entrance on provisional basis.

The students urged the university authorities to take a lenient view on the issue and save them a year, and were prepared to "give an undertaking that we will leave the course if we didn't qualify the re-examination of backlog subjects" which commenced

The reexamination of backlog subjects has already commenced from Friday.

Dean academic affairs KU, Prof Musadiq Hussain Suhaaf ruled out any chances of enrolling these students in PG courses and said a committee constituted for the issue also upheld that view.

"A committee was constituted but they didn't agree after examining the implications of allowing these students for admission in PG course," Suhaaf said without explaining the implications.

When asked why it took KU one year to hold re-examination of backlog subjects, Suhaaf said these were scheduled according to existing rules.

"We are not holding any supplementary exams, but in semester system reexamination is held after a period of one year. We can't do anything because the system is like this," he said.
