Various political and social organisations have hailed the election of Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief, Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo as president of the Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG). 

GEELANI FELICITATES FAYAZ AHMAD KALOO 

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has congratulated Fayaz Kaloo for his election as President KEG. 

He also congratulated Masood Hussain, Tahir Mohi-ud-din, Bashir Manzar, Haroon Rashid, Shafat Kira for election to various posts in KEG.  

"In conflict zones, media has a tremendous responsibility to portray the pain and agony of the wounded masses in its realistic perspective. Higher positions are always seen with great expectations and deep dip of sincerity. Our long and tiresome journey to our freedom too has seen sweet and sour tastes of media. Our journalistic fraternity and media houses have to traverse a rough path, of a two edged sword, especially for the last 27 years of armed unrest, but they have tried their best to propagate our ethos to the world outside through their news items, editorials, columns, videos, write-ups, images, and cartoons, for which whole nation owe them their sincere thanks," Geelani said in a statement. 

Hailing the efforts of media persons in general and its office bearers in particular, Hurriyat (G) chairman said that "they hopefully will continue to own and feel the miseries of the suffering nation and live up to their professional standards and credentials in future as well."  

HE IS DOYEN OF MODERN JOURNALISM IN KASHMIR: ALTAF BUKHARI 

Former minister and MLA Amirakadal Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari congratulated Fayaz  Kaloo saying "he is doyen of modern journalism in Kashmir." 

In his congratulatory message, Bukhari, who is outside State, has praised the contribution of Fayaz Kaloo more particularly for establishing Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma "which gave a new direction to print journalism in the State."

"Fayaz Kaloo is known to me for his rare qualities of head and heart. He is a legendary who has set up high ethics of journalism in Kashmir. He is simply a doyen of modern journalism in J&K State," he said. 

The MLA Amirakadal said that Kaloo's taking over as the president of prestigious body of editors in Kashmir will surely strengthen the institution of Fourth Estate in the state. "Fayaz sahib deserved this honor for his immense contribution in the field of journalism in Kashmir. It was because of his dedication and undaunted spirit that he created an institution which has become a household name across the state," Bukhari remarked.

Praying for more success and recognition for the Editor-in-Chief of Greater Kashmir, he said that Kaloo's nomination to the Editors Guild of India last year was also in recognition of his pioneering efforts to establish the first English language daily in Kashmir.

Bukhari has also extended his felicitations to Bashir Manzar, Chief Editor, Kashmir Images, Tahir Mohi-ud-Din, Chief Editor, Chattan for being elected General Secretaries of KEG. "I congratulate Masood Hussain, Editor Kashmir Life, Haroon Rashid Shah, Executive Editor Nidai-e-Mashriq and Shafat Kira, Editor, Kashmir Vision for being elected as Secretary General, Organizer-cum-Treasurer and Spokesperson of the Guild respectively."

WELCOME MEASURE: SAIFUDDIN SOZ 

Prof. Saifuddin Soz, former Union Minister said the constitution of the Editors Guild, got refurbished through the election of its office bearers.

"The Election of Fayaz Kaloo as President of the Editors Guild is a welcome measure as his association with the Guild will ensure the viability of the idea and it will also ensure the Guild's communication with the larger areas of the Civil Society," Prof Soz said. 

"The association of other office bearers-Tahir Mohi-u-ddin, Masood Hussain and Bashir Manzar is also a welcome measure as their experience is vast and varied. Sources confirmed the fact that election of the Guild was not only smooth, but the same was conducted in a very cordial atmosphere in which very prominent journalists/editors participated. The Guild should now undertake the task of setting up a Press-Club in Srinagar which has been in demand for pretty long time. Some people had apprehensions about the Institution of the Press-Club in Srinagar, sometime ago, but, now there is no place for such fears as the Press-Club will surely function in safe hands," Prof Soz said.

WILL CARRY FORWARD ETHICS OF JOURNALISM: GHULAM HASSAN MIR

President DPN and former Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir congratulated  Fayaz Kaloo for becoming head of the esteemed journalist body.

"We hope that Fayaz Sahib along with other members of the group with this new responsibility would work in a positive way and carry forward the ethics of Journalism," Mir said. 

APPRECIATE HIS CONTRIBUTION IN JOURNALISM: MOHAMMAD YOUSUF TARIGAMI 

In his congratulatory message to Fazal Kaloo, the CPI (M) State secretary and legislator Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami said  "with your hard work and dedication, Greater Kashmir and Uzma are increasingly getting wider appreciation. I appreciate your contribution in the field of professional journalism," 

UPHOLDS VALUES OF OBJECTIVITY: A M SAGAR

National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar congratulated Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief. 

"Fayaz Kaloo's election as the head of premier journalist body, journalism in the State would be further strengthen to uphold the ever-sacred values of objectivity, courage and fairness – values that the journalistic fraternity in the State has always enshrined in its work,"  Sagar said. 

Sagar also congratulated other office bearers of the KEG and said their contributions in reflecting truth amid a din of noise and distortion had steered the narrative on crucial issues towards realism and clarity.

National Conference leader Salman Sagar also felicitated Fayaz Kaloo. 

"Fayaz Kaloo is among the most experienced names in the field of journalism and has contributed immensely towards institutionalizing the profession in the State," Salman said. 

Meanwhile, Provincial spokesperson of NC Imran Nabi Dar has also felicitated Fayaz Kaloo. 

"He continues to uphold the principles of journalism despite challenges," Dar said.

Suhail Bukhari, Media Advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, has felicitated the new office-bearers of KEG.

Senior Leader, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and People's Political Party ( PPP) , Chief, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War has felicitated Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo. He never compromised on principles and never strangulated the voice of general masses even during the tough times of turmoil and continued to update the world about the happenings in this conflict zone. He gave an institution to Jammu and Kashmir in the form of Greater Kashmir" which has assumed the shape of 'Voice of Kashmiris' across the globe," War said.

HE SET-UP NOBLE INSTITUION FOR JOURNALISTS: NAYEEM KHAN  

Senior Hurriyat leader and National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan has congratulated Fayaz Kaloo. 

"Fayaz sahib has exceptionality for being a contributor to institutionalizing journalism in Kashmir. Under his supervision, Greater Kashmir, during past several decades has got enhanced to a noble institution for journalists to work in and a high-quality platform for new comers in the fraternity," Khan said. 

Khan also greeted Bashir Manzar, Tahir Mohi-ud-Din, for being elected vice presidents of KEG. He congratulated Masood Hussain, Haroon Rashid Shah, Shafat Kira for being elected as Secretary General, Organizer-cum-Treasurer and Spokesperson of the Guild respectively. 

"All these senior journalists and the editors deserve admiration by everyone as they have been keeping the ethics of the journalism alive in Kashmir, despite the situation being not conducive at all. I hope that KEG will ensure free and fair journalism will continue and the ethics of the journalism be followed in future as well," Khan said.  

HAS BEEN BRINGING TRUTH TO FORE : PARRA  

PDP Youth wing president Waheed ur Rehman Parra congratulated Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief Fayaz Kaloo.

Democratic Political Movement (DPM) chairman, Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi on  congratulated Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief. 

"Fayaz Kaloo's contribution towards the betterment of journalism in the state is very enormous. Kaloo Sahab and his team in daily English, Greater Kashmir and daily Urdu, Kashmir Uzma have given a new dimension to the field of journalism," Reshi said. 

"Kaloo Sahab and his team have always played a vital role in highlighting the plights of common people in Kashmir," he said. 

He also congratulated Bashir Manzar and Tahir Mohiuddin for being elected as Vice Presidents of the Editors Guild. HE PERFORMS PROFESSIONAL DUTIES IN VOLATILE SITUATION : MEHMOOD SAGHAR 

The vice president of Democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has extended his felicitations to Fayaz Kaloo.  

"Fayaz Kaloo deserves praise and appreciation for achieving this great feat and working diligently for promoting investigative and public interest journalism, maintaining ethical standards while performing professional duties in a highly volatile situation", Saghar said. 

 While congratulating the GK Editor in Chief, Saghar expressed the hope that Fayaz Kaloo would carry forward "his decades' long legacy as a true voice of Kashmir." "It is indeed his  dedication and professional commitment that GK and Uzma have become household names in Kashmir. Both the sibling newspapers over the years have immensely reported on human rights issues besides bringing this alarming issue on international radar screen," he said. 

The DFP leader also congratulated other KEG office bearers including senior journalist Masood Hussain on being elected as Secretary General, Haroon Rashid and Shifat Kira and others

The Chairman of Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah has also congratulated Fayaz Kaloo saying "his has given voice to voiceless Kashmiris." 

"Despite odds, Fayaz Sahib highlighted the truth and importantly the sufferings of Kashmiris. We salute him for his courage and commitment to report facts in conflict hit region." Shah said.  

'JOURNALISM WILL REACH NEW HEIGHTS UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP'

Chairman Salvation Movement Zaffar Akber Bhat and vice chairman Altaf Ahmed Bhat  congratulated Fayaz Kaloo. 

"We hoped that under his stewardship journalism in Kashmir will reach new heights," they said.  

Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Employees Union (JKEEU) president Abdul Salam Rajpouri and General Secretary Manzoor Ahmad Bhat Saturday congratulated Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief. 

"Fayaz Kaloo is among the most experienced names in the field of journalism and has contributed immensely towards institutionalizing the profession in the State," they said. 

'HE BROUGHT NEGLECTED SHAHER-E-KHAAS TO LIMILIGHT'

All Kashmir Traders Federation Traders Zaina Kadal Shaher-e-Khaas has also felicitated Fayaz Kaloo. 

"Fayaz Kaloo has been highlighting various issues confronting the development of Shaher-e-Khaas. We appreciate his efforts for bringing neglected Shaher-e-Khaas into limelight," said Federation president Nazir Ahmad Shah.

National Conference youth vice president Ahsan Pardesi also felicitated Greater Kashmir Editor-in-Chief.

"Fayaz Kaloo's contribution in institutionalizing local journalism in the State was exemplary and would set the tone for growth and qualitative evolution in journalism for decades to come," Pardesi said. 

"I am sure that under his presidency of the Editors' Guild, journalism in the State would be strengthened further to uphold the ever-sacred values of objectivity, courage and fairness – values that the journalistic fraternity in the State has always enshrined in its work," he added.  

He has also congratulated Chief Editor of Kashmir Images, Bashir Manzar and Editor Chattan Tahir Mohiuddin on their appointment as Vice Presidents of the Kashmir Editors' Guild saying their contributions in reflecting truth amid a din of noise and distortion had steered the narrative on crucial issues towards realism and clarity.
