Congress today demanded probe into the rude behavior of a police officer with Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
"Congress expresses serious concern over the attitude of the State police towards the head of the prestigious institution who was on way to Srinagar yesterday and describe it as an act of disgrace to Prof. Andrabi, who is not only VC of KU, but a renowned Scholar of the State," JKPCC spokesperson said in a statement.
"The police officer on duty as per the rule of law should have awarded Challan to the driver of the vehicle against the use of tinted glass inspite of making the VC wait on the road for about 20 minutes, besides the videography of the episode has added confusion to the incident and it should be probed who uploaded the Video on Facebook. What was the motive behind taping the incident of removing tint from the SUV of VC," the spokesman asked.
"The party has full faith in the Rule of Law which is equal for everyone, but the circumstances in which the SUV of VC was stopped and taping of the incident is something which needs to be probed.
We ask the Chief Minister to take cognizance of the matter and order an enquiry in order to ascertain the facts behind this whole episode," the statement added.
Meanwhile paying rich tributes to former Chief Ministers G.M. Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim and Former Minister G. M. Mir lasjan on their death anniversaries today, JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir lauded their selfless services and great contributions made by them to the overall development of the State and people.
