Congress helping BJP by dividing secular votes of Ladakh region, alleges PDP

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) on Saturday alleged that the Congress Party was helping the BJP by dividing the secular vote of Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Congress must make its stand clear about who theircandidate is in Ladakah. Is it Rigzin Spalbar or their proxy candidate AsgarAli Karbalai,” PDP’s senior leader Naeem Akhtar questioned, adding, that theparty is clearly trying to divide the secular vote in Ladakh.

   

The PDP leader alleged that Congress has tried to help BJPby setting up two candidates to divide secular vote in the sensitive borderregion. 

“If Karbalai is fighting an election as an independent candidateand continues to be member of Congress, it doesn’t need any evidence that theCongress party in the state is trying to help BJP,” Akhtar alleged.

PDP has also appealed to the people of Ladakh to vote forSajjad Kargilli and has termed him a voice of “reason” and “rationality”.

There are only four candidates in the fray from the LadakhLok Sabha seat.

While Rigzin Spalbar is contesting on a Congress ticket,Jamyang Tsering Namgyal is the BJP candidate.

Asgar Ali Karbalai, a Congress leader, has filed nominationas an independent candidate.

Another independent candidate Sajjad Hussain has the backingof the influential clergy in Kargil.

Thupstan Chhewang of the BJP had won the 2014 election fromthe constituency by a wafer-thin margin of 36 votes, defeating independentcandidate Ghulam Raza and two others in the contest.
