National Conference on Wednesday expressed dismay over the prolonged incarceration of the party leadership, saying the measure “defies all logic and political probity.”
A statement said a meeting of the functionaries was heldhere at the party headquarters here and it presided over Provincial Secretary,Showkat Ahmad Mir.
The statement said the speakers decried the prolongeddetention of the party President Farooq Abdullah and Vice President OmarAbdullah and other functionaries including General Secretary and provincialPresident.
Among others, Srinagar district President PirAfaq Ahmad alsoaddressed the meeting.
Mir said it was “alarming to see that a veteran and tallestpolitical personality like DrFarooq Abdullah sahib is not allowed to representhis people in LokSabha.”
“It is shocking to see how a representative voice is notallowed to represent his people in the highest House of the country. It is adishonor to the people’s mandate,” he said adding, “Continuous incarceration ofJ&K’s legitimate, representative voices is politically motivated and devoidof any logic.”
The speakers expressed dismay over the “poor” state ofaffairs in J&K, “There is no accountability on the ground. Post August 5last year every single sector be it economy, administration, and tourism is inshambles. The people especially the poor sections of the society are at thereceiving end,” said the statement.
The statement said the meeting passed a resolution, seekingimmediate release of all political prisoners and other people who arelanguishing in jails since 5 August 2019.
The participants asked the administration to rise up to theoccasion to ensure all basic and effective amenities to people.
Among others, Syed Tauqeer, AhsanPardesi, GN Bhat, Dr Syed,GhulamMohiud din Mir, Shabir Ahmad Mir, AsiyaJi, JS Azad and QaisarJalai werepresent on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the party has expressed grief over the demise ofKhateeb-e-Jummah, who was a close associate of HabibullahBhat.
