People from Drang and Khag areas here are up in arms against R&B department for allowing a private telecommunication company dig out a 10-km stretch of Khag-Drang road for laying optical fiber cable (OFC) for some project.
A delegation of people from the area said that the road has already been in pathetic conditions since years with Shunglipora-Drang span being in worst condition.
"The company, for its own gains, has bulldozed the road from one side throughout its length from Drang to Khag and it presents an ugly spectacle due to the mud sledged over it after excavation," they said.
The delegation members from the remote area of Budgma district also alleged that the water supply pipelines have also been damaged at many places affecting water supply to many habitations.
"We had to restore water supply ourselves as PHE department didn't come to our rescue," they added.
"The R&B department has claimed a huge amount from the company for repair of the damaged road but has not restored even an inch of it," they alleged.
The transporters of the area have also been hit by the disfigured road.
"We are also facing hardships while plying on the road. It is not only damaging for vehicles but also poses threat to the lives of passengers as well," Adil Sayeed, a transporter from Khag blurted.
Incharge Assistant Executive Engineer R&B sub division Khag, Muhammed Iqbal Dar said, "We have claimed around 52 lakhs from the company for restoration of this road and have also floated tenders for the same. Restoration work of the road will start within a week."
