Crime Branch data reveal 133 militants arrested in past 2 years

Over 100 militants have been arrested by government forces in past two years in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the figures compiled by Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Crime Branch (CB), a total of 133 militants have been arrested in 2016-2017 period. Data shows 49 militants were arrested in 2016, while 84 militants were arrested in 2017.

   

During 2016-2017, data shows 342 militants have been killed, with highest 208 militants killed during 2017.

The data also shows a steep rise in militancy in Kashmir with 503 militancy related incidents occurring in 2017 compared to 411 incidents in 2016. 

Data also marks 2017 as ‘deadliest year’ in past seven years in Kashmir’s militancy with over 200 militants killed in the year in counter insurgency operations, the highest since 2010 when 270 militants were killed.

The data also shows 49 blasts occurred in these two years.

Interestingly, data reveals no militant has surrendered in 2017, while only one militant has surrendered in 2016.
