A CRPF man was shot dead by militants in Naira village of Pulwama on late Sunday evening.
A police official said that militant fired upon Naseer Ahmad Rather when he was coming out of his house for offering the late night prayers at a local mosque.
Rather was soon shifted to District HospitalPulwama where doctors declared him as brought dead, the official said.
Medical Superintendent at District Hospital Pulwama, Ab Rashid Parra said that the victim had multiple fire arm injuries in his abdomen.
Rather was posted with 183 battaion of CRPF at Police Control Room Srinagar and was vacationing at home.
Rather was married four years ago and is survived by his wife and a three year old son.
Soon after the incident, government forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive operation to nab the assailants.
The incident took place barely 24 hours after the militants released an abductee SPO in Tral area of the district.
