CUK celebrates int’l women’s day, holds poster competition

The Women’s Empowerment Committee (WEC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated International Women’s Day at Green Campus of the varsity here on Tuesday.

In a statement here a CUKspokesman said that the theme of International Women’s Day-2019, identified bythe United Nations is ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change’.

   

TheWEC organised a poster competition for the undergraduate and postgraduatestudents of the varsity, students from neighboring educational institutions andthe university staff on the topics “Planet 50-50”, “Women and Conflict”,”Gender-Balanced World” and “Voicing the Unheard.”

Addressingthe gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that women play animportant role in the overall development of the society. “During contemporarytimes, women are working shoulder to shoulder with men in all the spheres oflife and are also managing their household chores,” Prof Mehraj ud Din Mirsaid.

Hehighlighted the objective of organising the poster competition to provide aplatform to the students of the varsity and other educational institutions toshowcase their hidden talent. He complimented the WEC for holding regularprogrammes for the empowerment of women and hailed the two students of Schoolof Education for their dissertation on the achievements and contribution ofKashmiri women. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, along with Prof. Fayaz A Nikka, Prof.Parveen Pandit, Prof. N A Nadeem and Prof. Nighat Basu later distributedcertificates among the participants.

Jurycomprising artists, Arshad Sualeh and Naushad Gayoor praised the students forexhibiting wonderful talent during the competition and urged them to expresstheir feelings through the medium of the art. “Art is an oldest form ofexpression and every human being is an artist,” the duo remarked.
