CUK team qualifies for Nuremberg Moot Court finals

Five students of the School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) have qualified for the international rounds of the Nuremberg Moot Court scheduled at Nuremberg, Germany in the last week of July.

The students are: Mah-NashitUzma, AbrarReyaz, Huzaif Ashraf,MehreenAltaf and Muhammad KhurramQureshi. They are one of three groups to besponsored fully by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy and theInternational Criminal Law Research Unit of the Friedrich-Alexander UniversityErlangen-Nuremberg, for participation, a CUK handout said.

   

According to the department coordinator, Gulafroz, thestudents have been under the guidance of team coach and ex-Head and Dean ofSchool of Legal Studies, Dr Sheikh ShowkatHussain who will accompany them onthis prestigious event.

She said the Moot Court team has not only made its place inthe international rounds, but is one of the only three amongst 60 qualifyingteams from universities across the globe to get sponsored as per rules of thecompetition.

“The team qualified after making it through two differentrounds including motivation letters and submission of memorials. The thirdphase, which is to be held at Nuremberg would consist of pleadings and oralrounds,” she said.

She said CUK has become the first ever team from the Stateof Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the same.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehrajud Din Mir and Registrar, Prof.Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, have congratulated the team and wished them success for thefinals.
