To mark the first anniversary of devastating floods, Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil on Sunday organized an Award Ceremony to honour those real heroes and brave hearts of Kashmir who exhibited courage during the deluge.
The function was held at the Auditorium of Islamia Higher Secondary School Rajouri Kadal. On the occasion, Chairman of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is the patron of Darul Khair gave away medals and memorabilia to 25 religious, social and political organization who where in the forefront of relief and rehabilitation work.
"35 individuals from different walks of life were also felicitated who exhibited great courage in saving human lives during last year's flood. Apart from that, around 70 youth volunteers were given certificates who rendered their services in different relief and rescue operations, and also volunteered for Darul Khair's "AkhAkis" Initiative," the organizers said in a statement.
During his inaugural speech, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lauded the courage of people, especially youth, during and in the aftermath of the flood in relief and rehabilitation work.
"I express gratitude to the good samaratans who offered monetary help and assistance in undertaking the "Akis Akis" initiative for building houses for the flood affected. Such initiatives were aimed to invigorate the society with the spirit of community service, collaboration, self help and self reliance," Mirwaiz said.
