Defunct drainage system irks residents of Mahrajpora area of Sopore

Sopore, Feb 2: The residents of Mahrajpora area in Sopore town of Baramulla district are up in arms against the Municipal authorities for failing to repair the defunct drainage system in the area.

The aggrieved residents have said that the drainage system is dysfunctional and has resulted in immense inconveniences to them with no intervention from the concerned department.

   

They said due to the pathetic state of drainage system in entire Mahrajpora locality, “water usually overflows and enters into the lawns of households and also into the lawn of government school situated in the locality as well, due to which locals, staff and students of the school suffer.”

“We are facing huge inconveniences due to the defunct drainage system in our area. It is day by day adding to our woes,” Ghulam Hassan Guru, a local resident said.

“Just a few hours of rain or snowfall causes waterlogging, the defunct drainage conditions in the area itself speaks of the laxity of the authorities,” Hassan said.

“We approached the concerned authorities several times to restore it but unfortunately nothing is being done,” residents said.

The inhabitants urged concerned authorities to look into the issue as soon as possible and redress their problems at the earliest.
