DGP pleads with the youth not to throw stones at army

Exhorting the youth of Kashmir to refrain from throwing stones at the army, the head of the police SP Vaid on Friday said that young men should understand that it was their own army. He said it was painful to see young boys getting killed in firing by the government forces.

Vaid was speaking to the media at the martyrs’ graveyard in the old city to mark the martyrdom anniversary of twenty-two men gunned down in 1931by the soldiers of Dogra ruler. “My appeal to youth is not to attack army with stones. Youth should understand that it is their own army,” Vaid said.

“Only a family that loses their son knows the pain,” Vaid said. The DGP urged youth not to rush towards encounter sites. “We are working out a plan to bring the civilian causalities to zero at the encounter sites,” he said.

According to official figures, 106 civilians were killed at the encounter sites in the past 18 months.
