Deputy Inspector general (DIG) of police south Kashmir Range Amit Kumar was wounded during a gunfight with the militants in Pinglina village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
A source said that that as the fierce gunfight between the militants and forces continued a bullet hit the DIG who was supervising the anti-militant operation in leg.
He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Earlier, two militants, four army men including a Major rank officer and a civilian were killed in the gunfight that broke out shortly after midnight.
Three other army men including a Lieutenant Colonel were also injured in the gunfight.
