Authorities in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have failed to maintain the road network at valley’s largest industrial estate at Lassipora resulting into immense hardships to the local unit holders and visitors.
The potholed roads at the SIDCO Industrial Estate in the district have turned into virtual streams after the melting of recent snow with the blocking of the water stream traversing across the estate only making the movement at the estate even more difficult, the local unit holders told Greater Kashmir.
They said that that the absence of a proper drainage system and a culvert beside the stream had turned the premises into a virtual pool making it almost impossible for the local unit holders, especially laborers, and visitors to move around.
“The main gate as well as the footpath mostly remain inundated due to which the labourers are unable to move,” a local worker said.
Local unit holders alleged the dilapidated road condition at the industrial estate has persisted over the years even as authorities had turned a deaf ear to their woes.
They said that most of the interior roads at the estate were damaged and after the snowfall situation has worsened adding to their hardships.
“It seems that the authorities are not interested to fix the roads and address our hardships,” Aijaz Ahmad Malik, a worker said.
General Manager SIDCO, Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad, when asked for his comments over the matter, assured that the work on the culvert will be started tomorrow.
He said that the allotment in this regard has been done and the culvert will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh.
