Doctors stage protest over ‘harassment’ of colleagues in Bandipora

Many doctors on Thursday assembled at Community Health Centre (CHC) Hajin here and held a silent protest against the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora for allegedly threatening and harassing them.

They doctors alleged the DC Shabaz Mirza threatened andharassed them over telephone after Medical Superintendent CHC Hajin, Dr NasirAhmad allowed few persons, who were kept at Sumbal quarantine centre to gohome, after completing isolation period.

   

“We simply followed the guidelines prescribed by thegovernment and allowed the persons to go home who were tested negative and hadcompleted quarantine period,” said Dr Ahmad said. He said the doctors would notresume work till action was initiated against the DC.

According to Dr Ahmad the DC abused and used harsh languageagainst him me the phone.

Dr Muzafar Zargar, posted at the CHC alleged he too wasabused by the DC few days ago.

The doctors at the CHC stayed away from work from for twohours in the afternoon as a mark of protest.

Syed Shahnawaz, Official on Special Duty for coronavirus inBandipora said visited Hajin and tried to persuade the doctors and paramedicalstaff to call off their strike.

However, the doctors and paramedical staff continued withthe strike. Block Medical Officer, Hajin Dr Ajaz Ahmad said he was also part ofthe protest. “We will not end the strike until the authorities take not of theissue,” he said.

The Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK) stronglycondemns the “indecent behavior” by the DC.

The DC refuted the allegations. “There was some issue overrelease of some people from a quarantine centre. The issue has been resolved.It happens sometimes due to anger. Now I have talked to the doctor,” he said.He also said the doctors have resumed theirwork.
