Dr Muhammad Hussain, Associate Professor in Department of Law was Sunday declared as the new president Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA).
In the election held on Saturday, Kashmir University teaching faculty voted its new body for two years. The term of last body had ended on August 26 this year.
Prof Hussain garnered 350 votes and was elected as the president of KUTA, which was formed in 1976. Linguist Dr Musavir Salam was elected as Secretary General.
Teachers from all the campuses of Kashmir University, viz Hazratbal, North, South, Leh and Kargil, participated in the elections.
Other office bearers include Dr Manzoor Ahmad Bhat (Islamic Studies) as vice-president; Tariq Abdullah (EMMRC) as joint secretary/treasurer; Dr Tariq Ahmad (Zoology), Dr Showkat Ahmad Shah (Psychology), Dr Manzoor Ahmad Shah (Botany), Dr Muhammad Ishaq Geer (Pharmaceutical Sciences), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday (Mathematics); Prof Hamidullah Marazi (Islamic Studies), Tariq Ahmad Lone (Business School), Dr Tariq Ahmad Chisti (Distance Education), Dr Aejaz Muhammad Sheikh (Linguistics) and Dr Altaf Hussain Mir (Zoology) as Executive members.
