Drinking water ‘ goes waste’ in Bandipora village

At a time when people of Sonawari are complaining lack of drinking water, a lot of portable water goes waste in the area with authorities taking no steps to check the misuse.

According to the locals, a lot of water at the Main Chowk Wasikhen Asham, Sumbal in district Bandipora goes waste due to everyday leakage in a water pipe.

The water scarcity is intense in other villages of Sumbal, Sonawari like in Shahgund, Hajin, Markundal and Banyari, etc., The locals said despite this scarcity 1000s of litres of water everyday go waste due to the lackadaisical approach of the Public Health Engineering department Sumbal who have miserably failed to plug the water pipe.

The residents of Asham said the pipe carries water from Manasbal lake which is highly pure. ” But due to the negligence of the department, it goes waste,” said Haji Mohammad Akbar.

Interestingly, the drivers have made this place a washing spot for their vehicles.

The locals said they have brought the matter to the notice of the department but to no avail.
