Efficient administration our goal, says CS

The state administration shall have to function with efficiency, speed and accountability and deliver quick results on the ground on developmental and governance fronts, the chief secretary B V R Subrahmanyam said on Wednesday, and asked the deputy commissioners to closely monitor the ongoing projects and schemes and take proactive measures to ensure their completion.

Addressing a conference of deputy commissioners and district police chiefs here, Subrahmanyam said that the event coincides with completion of three months of governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir and “our focus during this period has been on delivering good governance in a systemic and rapid manner.”

   

“Our sustained focus has to be on working with transparency and consultations to promote a culture of excellence in governance, characterised by integrity and highest standards of deliverance,” he said.

The chief secretary said that the government has already taken “proactive measures” to complete all projects which are lingering for want of funds. He said that a special scheme has been launched in this regard so that these projects are provided assured funding for their completion at the earliest. He asked the deputy commissioners to identify all such pending projects on priority and communicate the same to the government for further action. He said that some important public infrastructure projects including bridges, roads and buildings will be covered under the new scheme which will be rolled out within next couple of days.

“The chief secretary also called for ensuring that the major development programs and projects and flagship schemes are given a renewed push and completed on time. PMDP projects must be given priority so that projects such as AIIMS, IIT, IIM, ring roads and others are completed on time,” an official spokesman said.

Talking about preparations for the upcoming municipal and panchayat polls, the chief secretary asked the DCs not to get distracted by the election process and asked them to simultaneously keep track of the developmental projects and also monitor the process regularly.
