Amid continuous clashes and curfew, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan has asked all DCs to ensure maximum participation of school children in the I-Day functions on August 15.
A top official said Khan convened a video conference with all DCs and was assured that they will ensure full participation of school children in their respective districts. "But the claims made by the DCs were countered by officials of education department who informed the meeting that parents and school children were not ready to attend the function," the official said.
On July 21, the government had decided to reopen the schools in four districts which found no takers. Parents refused to send their wards to schools given the safety concerns about the students.
"There are many apprehensions in sending students for participation in such functions. No parent is ready," a top official said.
The valley continues to remain under curfew and restrictions for past 25 days following the killing of Hizb Commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
